Cincinnati Pet Food Pantry Distribution

On May 15th, the Cincinnati Pet Food Pantry provided food support to 99 pet owners. I met many grateful people who are struggling to make ends meet and are doing their best to help feed their families, including their beloved pets. Times are tough but through the help of the food pantry and the generosity of Cincinnatians who have donated food, time and money to this cause, there are many more people in the Cincinnati area who have had the option to keep their animal rather than being forced into the traumatic decision of surrendering them because they cannot financially provide for their food and care. The Cincinnati Pet Food Pantry will provide temporary food assistance to pet guardians who are currently unable to afford food for their pets and may otherwise be forced to give up their pets without food assistance.

The next Cincinnati Pet Food Pantry distribution is scheduled for Saturday, June 19th from 10am – noon at Circle Storage in Blue Ash, (11367 Deerfield Road, 45242).

Katie with the Eastgide Girl Scout troupe, who volunteered their time at the recent distribution as well as organized a food drive for their community service project.

Food pantry recipients sign in for their collection of food and other pet supplies.

Volunteers sort through the food and other supplies for distribution.

Here’s my own family bringing in a donation for the food pantry.

Mark and Maggie, a beautiful 4-year old Rottweiler.

Please note that animals cannot come through the line for food distribution. And while we all know how much many pets like to come along for the ride, it is especially important to keep animals at home as the summer months approach and temperatures rise. Never leave an animal alone in a parked vehicle as temperatures can quickly reach deadly levels – even in the shade and with the windows open – leading to heat exhaustion, heat stroke, brain damage and even death.

Monica and Creeper.

Volunteers help load donations.

Mickey and her 12-year old dog, Buddy, waiting for her daughter to collect their food donations.  Mickey was so grateful for the support of the Pet Food Pantry and told me that she wouldn’t have been able to feed her six dogs in these difficult times without the food donations from this vital program.

This post made me misty-eyed. What a great cause, and so nice to know that families in need can still have the comfort of their best friends. I wish they had these type of pantries all over the US.
